Dunkin’ Employee Sparks Investigation After Viral Foot-Washing Video
A Dunkin’ location in New York City has found itself at the center of controversy after a customer recorded an employee washing his feet in a sink inside the restaurant.
The video surfaced on TikTok and quickly gained attention online. According to TMZ, the incident happened at a Dunkin’ location near the Staten Island Ferry.
In the clip, the employee appears to place his foot inside the sink and wash it with his hands. The sight immediately raised sanitation concerns among customers, especially because the employee worked inside a food-service establishment.
City Officials Look Into the Incident
TMZ reports that New York City officials started investigating the viral video. The New York Post also reported that the city’s Health Department became involved.
NYC health regulations prohibit food-service workers from washing their feet in restaurant sinks. Restaurants designate sinks for specific purposes, and foot washing doesn’t fall under any of those approved uses.
Some people online suggested the employee may have been performing wudu, the Islamic purification practice that can include washing the feet before prayer. Regardless of the reason, food-safety regulations still require restaurant employees to follow sanitation rules.
The investigation will determine what action, if any, officials or the restaurant take following the incident.
