Kehlani Opens Up About Bipolar Disorder and Says Her Routine Is Literally About Survival
- Kehlani takes medication, exercises, and focuses on her faith to manage her bipolar disorder.
- Kehlani's openness about her mental health journey has encouraged her fans.
- Despite her career success, Kehlani prioritizes her mental health to enjoy the journey.
Okay, Kehlani just opened up about something way deeper than music. This time, the topic was Kehlani bipolar disorder and how it impacts her life.
In a recent Billboard interview, Kehlani revealed that she has a clinical bipolar disorder diagnosis, and she didn’t sugarcoat what it takes for her to stay grounded while dealing with the nonstop craziness of the music industry. In fact, Kehlani bipolar disorder struggles were shared honestly in this interview.
Kehlani says she takes medication, but that’s only one part of it. She also makes herself work out, do yoga, take walks, get outside and spend time in nature.
And faith plays a major role too.
Kehlani says she makes time to pray and intentionally works on her relationship with God.
Basically, she’s built an entire routine around protecting her mental health because the music business can completely throw a normal schedule out the window.
Think about it: you’re in the studio until 7 in the morning, sleeping during the day, waking up and doing it all over again. Kehlani says she knows she can’t live like that without taking care of herself.
She summed it up by saying she needs a wellness routine so she can “survive.”
And This Didn’t Happen Overnight
Kehlani previously talked with Big Boy about getting mental health diagnoses and spending about a year figuring out what actually worked for her. Clearly, her openness about Kehlani bipolar disorder has encouraged fans.
That included medication, therapy and everyday practices that helped her better manage her emotions. Also, Kehlani bipolar disorder challenges are met with a combination of treatment and resilience.
She says treatment changed the way she reacts to situations that once would’ve hit her much harder.
And then there’s songwriting.
Kehlani says writing gives her somewhere to put those emotions without needing another person on the other side of the conversation. She basically described songwriting as a conversation with herself.
Meanwhile… Her Career Is Going CRAZY
Here’s what makes all of this even more interesting: Kehlani is talking about protecting her peace while her career is moving at full speed.
“Folded” became her first Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit, reaching No. 6. The song also earned her two Grammy wins after seven previous nominations.
Her self-titled album Kehlani followed with another major moment, debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and hitting No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Then she took everything on the road with a 44-date world tour.
So while everybody else sees the hits, Grammys, shows and success, Kehlani is basically saying: there’s a whole routine happening behind the scenes just to make sure she stays okay through all of it.
And THAT might be the bigger story here.
Success can look amazing from the outside, but sometimes you have no idea what somebody has to do every single day just to stay balanced enough to enjoy it.
