Black Milk, the multi-talented producer/emcee from Detroit, is clearly the heir to the throne of Detroit’s other great producer/emcee, the late J Dilla.

When producer J Dilla passed away in 2006 from complications of Lupus, the hip-hop and R&B worlds lost one of the most forward thinking talents it had ever seen.

Dwele performed his song “Angel” at last year’s “Suite For Ma Dukes” where Miguel Atwood Ferguson and Carlos Nino paid tribute to the late J Dilla in contemporary chamber music style.

While on what would be his last tour in November of 2005, J Dilla sat with his friends and tourmates, Frank & Dank, Dave NY, and DJ Rhettmatic of the Beat Junkies in an airport and talked about working with Biggie, and going out on a date with Lil’ Kim.

Four years after his passing due to complications from Lupus, fans of J Dilla continue to throw annual tribute parties in his honor during on or around February 7th, Dilla’s birthday.

Common remembers his late friend, producer/MC J-Dilla.
