Quan explains why he flubbed the Biggie lyric at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors.

Rich Homie Quan is catching a fair amount of flak after he flubbed the Biggie verse in “Get Money” during a performance at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors. He already apologized profusely for his error:

“I assure you that I never intended to disrespect Biggie Smalls,” he wrote. “I have long respected his work and his contribution to the rap game.I greatly apologize not only to Biggie Smalls, but also to all of my fans and to New York… I hope you can accept my apology.”

In a new interview with TMZ, Quan insists that he knew the lyrics, albeit not perfectly, and was ultimately done in by a teleprompter malfunction. “Yeah, I knew it by heart,” he explained. “But then, I told ’em I didn’t know all the words, so the words were supposed to be on the teleprompter, and they weren’t there.
