Though they probably won’t be going out for drinks anytime soon, former President George W. Bush has accepted Kanye West’s apology for branding him a racist during an NBC telethon.
During a 2005 telethon benefitting victims of Hurricane Katrina, West broke from the script and boldly stated to a live television audience that “George Bush does not care about black people.” The comment was based on Bush’s slow response to the hurricane’s damage and it’s devastating effect on the black communities in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. In Bush’s upcoming memoir, he states that it was the lowest point of his presidency.
Now after Kanye’s own public shaming at the 2009 MTV VMA’s (We don’t have to recap that for you. Kanye’s made sure everyone knows what happened.) Yeezy recently had a change of heart about the whole Bush incident.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Bush stated that he accepts Kanye’s apology.
“I’m not a hater. I don’t hate Kanye West,” President Bush said.
