Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame recently talked about his past stint behind bars around the come-up of former affiliate Nicki Minaj sparking the femcee’s Young Money association and eventual record deal.

Asked if he thought Nicki would have joined his Brick Squad Monopoly crew if it weren’t for him and Gucci Mane doing jail bids, Waka said he is certain things would have gone differently.

“Yea, I can say that. ‘Cause when I was around… I ain’t tryin’ sound like I’m some He-Man, n*gga. But, Nicki, that’s my n*gga, like. If I probably never went to jail. I probably never would have been rappin’,” Flocka said in an interview. “I’d be doin’ the same thing I did with Gooch. All the f*ckery she probably got, that sh*t [would] be to the minimum.” (XXL Mag)

He also came clean on his mother/manger taking aim at Nicki and Gucci for ditching her management a couple years ago.

“Honestly, she was gon go even harder. I had to pull my mother back, like, “Yo, you my mother. Your sh*t is personal. If somebody disrespect you, it’s over for my career. It’s over for my freedom. You gotta live with that.” If a n*gga disrespect my moms, my n*gga, I’m gonna f*ckin’ kill them. I hope you put that in capitalized letters,” Waka added. “I’m gonna f*ckin’ kill you, n*gga. I’m gonna sit down for 25 years. Any man or woman gon understand that. You disrespect the person that birth them or the person that raised them to be who they are today, they gonna kill you. If you a Christian, catholic, Muslim, whatever the f*ck, most people whatever the case may be, they gonna handle they business. So I told my mother, “Yo, relax. you better watch yourself on camera turnin’ up like that. That’s an embarrassment to yourself.” And you don’t need to let nobody see that side. But they need to see that side. [Laughs] And plus that’s where she from, n*gga. Check her background.” (XXL Mag)

Back in August 2010, Flocka addressed their decision to seek other management.

“I can say when you start getting hot, there are a lot of people that get in your ear. I call that the devil. It’ll turn you against the people that helped you. They must have just felt like they needed a change. Maybe they felt like other people can take their career somewhere else. I don’t know. Just like LeBron [James] going to the Heat. I ain’t mad, though, or got problems with anybody. Moms is good; her bills are paid…Yeah, [it affected my relationship with Gucci] all the way. All the way. I ain’t got beef or anything but it has changed. We don’t talk anymore. Nicki is still my homey, though. I got her number and can call her whenever. My momma ain’t got no problems with her or anything either. Let’s make that clear.” (VIBE)

Flocka’s mom, Debbie Antney, publicly spoke out on Minaj’s decision to part ways with her two years ago.

“I am the person that put it out that she did a cease and desist letter or whatever that sh*t is that she did,” Antney said in an interview. “I put that out, she didn’t put that out. She never said anything, that was to stop people from continuously calling me to let them know I no longer have her. She chose not to be with me. That’s why I do sh*t on a handshake. People out there might say that’s a sucker, but I’m not, that’s who I am. You don’t want to be with me, you’re gone free. Do whatever it is you want to do, good-bye…I love Nicki, I love Nick and I wish her all the success in the world. You don’t have to stay with me.” (All Hip Hop)

Nicki Minaj officially signed a record deal with Young Money in summer 2009.
