Go Gabby! Gabrielle Union ran for the cure in DC over the weekend and has been doing a great job as the global ambassador for Susan G. Koman Circle of Promise program! Check out the flicks below:

Philanthropy as well as educating women on breast cancer and the importance of mammograms has been dear to Gabrielle Union’s heart ever since she lost a good friend of hers to breast cancer years ago. Since then, she has become the global ambassador for Susan G. Koman Circle of Promise program in an effort to provide breast cancer prevention services and educational programs to women worldwide.

This past weekend, Gabrielle joined the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Washington DC for the ‘Race For The Cure’ marathon. Before the race, she took to her twitter page and wrote,

“Beautiful morning in DC! So proud 2 be a part of the #GlobalRace & an Ambassador for @KomenfortheCure. I’m here in memory of my friend Kristen Martinez :) ”

Speaking in an interview with ABC before the event, Gabrielle shared the message that her friend wanted her to deliver to women across the world:

Fear can literally kill you. You have to tell people that it’s better to know than not know. Prevention is the key. Don’t be so fearful of what the news may be that you just never go.

She also shared how she began her involvement with the Susan G. Koman Foundation:

When they found out about the work I was doing on behalf of Kristen Martinez they invited me to be a global ambassador for the Circle of Promise, part of Susan G Komen. I recognize through my work with Kristen, and in urban communities, there are so many factors why we have the highest mortality rate. Fear being one of those things, access to proper health care is another, and our lack of knowledge about preventive services is huge and through Susan G Komen we have taken that message worldwide. What I have noticed is more than anything, what’s shocking and not what I expected, is the same issues that you see in third world countries are the same issues that we see in America. I always say I didn’t need to leave the Bronx to be educated about what the needs are in the world, because they’re the same.

Hats off to Gabby!
