Who needs to give to charity when you’re getting $20,000 to speak to kids? I’ll count this as a win for the kids and Ashanti, but where was the school’s antennas? Would you feel comfortable with your child’s school paying $20,000 to “talk” to students?

Who needs to give to charity when you’re getting $20,000 to speak to kids? I’ll count this as a win for the kids and Ashanti, but where was the school’s antennas? According to the school, the money given to Ashanti was from the district budget account… How many books can $20,ooo get you? If we’re talking about hands-on experience in the broadcasting industry, wouldn’t a disc-jockey be A LOT less expensive and worth every penny? Somebody in charge has a crush on Ashanti!!! Would you feel comfortable with your child’s school paying $20,000 to “talk” to students? Did I mention the mayor of Atlantic City is Ashanti’s godmother? Who said the fix was in?

Ashanti snagged a quick $20 grand paycheck earlier this month when she stopped by Atlantic City High School to speak to students during an assembly. While there, she also met privately with a group of middle school students from the area and did an interview with the school’s radio station.

The Assistant Superintendent for the school says that the funds to pay her appearance fee came from the district budget account designated for the improvement of instructional services and that the school saw her appearance as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity.

Meanwhile, Ashanti, who is the mayor of Atlantic City’s goddaughter, spent quite some time with various groups of students encouraging them to follow their dreams, stay in school and surround themselves with a support network of family and friends.

A few pics, plus footage from her interview with the radio station below:
