A man is being held in the city jail for questioning in the murder of Gloria Pointer, 14.

“I want to say to everyone, don’t give up hope. Miracles do happen,” Gloria’s mother Yvonne told us today exclusively after hearing of the arrest.

Gloria was raped and murdered on the east side on her way to school in December of 1984.  She was found dead in the stairwell of an apartment building.

The man being held is a convicted sex offender, and was connected to the case through DNA. Reporter Ed Gallek is waiting to find out more about him.  Right now, police are showing his photo to witnesses.

“It shows the awesomeness of this big God we all serve. He is not prejudiced. He cares about all of us.”

Gloria’s mother, Yvonne, has since become an activist working for positive change locally, nationally and internationally. She has appeared on national television shows and even started projects in other countries. She recently got back from a groundbreaking for a new school in Africa, a project in which she spearheaded.
