RachelJeantel-Graduation

Rachel Jeantel has fulfilled her promise to her fallen friend Trayvon Martin by getting her high school diploma.

Yahoo! News reports that Rachel, who testified against George Zimmerman in the case of Trayvon’s tragic death, graduated from her Miami high school on Friday as she donned a white cap and gown.

While her dearly departed friend could not be there for Rachel’s big day, his mother Sybrina Fulton did attend the graduation. “Her coming is like having Trayvon there saying, ‘You did it. You proved people wrong,’” Jeantel told Yahoo!

Rachel, who was on the phone with Trayvon just moments before he was attacked and killed by George back in February 2012, testified in the highly publicized trial.

BET reports that Miami defense attorney Rod Vereen helped Rachel, 20, achieve her goal by organizing a network of tutors, psychologists and mentors. The team, in conjunction with the Tom Joyner Foundation, took Rachel from elementary level reading and math skills to securing her diploma.

Rachel now plans to go on to college so that she can continue her education.
