“DJ Clark Kent reveals that Jay Z had a Tupac diss record that never saw the light of day.
Younger Jay Z fans sometimes forget how close his ties were with The Notorious B.I.G. in his early career, but in reality, they attended the same high school and appeared together on Reasonable Doubt’s “Brooklyn’s Finest.” Jay was around, if not yet established, when the huge beef between Big and Tupac was raging in the ’90s, and in a new interview, one of his old collaborators revealed that he almost submitted a diss track to the whole situation.
DJ Clark Kent, who was Jay’s DJ at the time and also produced three Reasonable Doubt tracks, guested on the podcast A Waste of Time with ItsTheReal (highly recommended, by the way) this week, and revealed that Hov had a Tupac diss track that was never released.
“Jay did a record going at Pac but right as it was about to go out, son died,” he said. “We performed it though. We was at the Apollo. It was… scathing. Crowds was like, oh shit.”
People have also been saying that the track might have been played on the legendary Stretch and Bobbito radio show, but it doesn’t seem to exist online anywhere currently.
