The Ohio Department of Health has reported the state’s first case of the Zika virus.
A 30-year-old Cleveland woman is confirmed to have contracted the virus during a recent trip to Haiti, according to a news release.
The Department of Health says a planning process is underway to ensure the state’s preparedness at local and state levels prior to mosquito season, which begins in May.
Zika virus is primarily transmitted through a mosquito bite, and there is no indication that it can spread from person to person through casual contact.
