News of Deputy #ZackariParrish at 29 young years of life losing his while being there to help someone else’s….has left my heart aching on this new years eve. He leaves a wife & 2 young girls. A day or so after the death of Eric Garner’s daughter. Eric of course losing his life at the hands of evil men in uniforms…while this good good man in a uniform will not be toasting his loved ones at midnight. This year i really miss a loved one i lost to 10 bullets. We all in this country & beyond need to take a deep long look at ourselves in the mirror as 2017 ends & ask…if we have done anything to make this increasingly dark land a better one…a brighter one? If we could make 1 wish before 2018 hits, mine would be that the really really good people, parents, children on this earth be allowed at least 2 more of themselves so that if their 1st self was called home way too early especially……their 2nd or 3rd self could go to their earthly home & keep loving on wives & children now left alone. May God be with the Parrishes & the families of all those who can sympathize & empathize. Thank you to ALL who have believed in me & rooted for all the sides of me. For my FULL life & those of my tribe & loved ones. To a better 2018 to you & yours. 🙏🏽👐🏽

Since i was my daughter’s young age i felt the years moving fast. But I equally saw life in slow motion. Every “broken” moon there is a pendulum swing along our journey. For me that was weeks after welcoming that same daughter (our 1st child) into this world. 3 weeks after such a MOMENTOUS event….the pendulum swung HARD when 20 little beautiful souls about her present age were stripped of their innocence & of their lives. The rituals of their parents & siblings & families were equally stripped. And this Papa & Mama bear @mrsjaeh will never forget. Acknowledgement posted today because tomorrow i will be in quiet prayer all day… for you & the souls of your little angels like the ones of Ashawnty & Rosalie 🙏🏽 #SandyHook #AlwaysRidingForYou

My Pop used to say…it cost nothing to smile. In my journey i have learned everyone however doesn’t “deserve” your smile. As a New Yorker…was hard to smile yesterday but my warmth goes out to ALL who lost in the tragedy. And my appreciation for all the beautiful souls who instinctually came to aid & rescue. We still have some good good souls on God’s earth. God bless our America & the good people of New York.

Today i awoke rocking a bit of a heavy yet grateful heart. Our special uncle raised as our eldest brother was tragically “taken” away from us by a human almost 11 years ago. But he was angelically brought HOME by God. Today is his birthday. Past week or 2, we have been filming in Harlem. The spirit of honor has carried me through the remainder of such a day. As i honor the gift of life & the time spent in & with his life….i wanted to honor the home of 1 of our greatest renaissance as a people & as a nation. Equal a home of degradation & brokenness. Even in the uglies of environments, the beauties will remain timeless. Thank you Harlem for all you taught us, for all you have lost & survived, for how much you lead & supported us, for how greatly you hosted everyone of purpose & revolution from Malcolm, to Langston, to Gil Scott-Heron, to Jamal Joseph to ALL the incredible musicians & mc’s to Rucker to ALL the other local social, political & educational heroes…..all the way to Kenny Hardwick’s nephew. #HonorDay *photo credit: my soul brother @mberritto1 *Shirt gifted by the uncle of 1 of the Harlem youngsters i mentor met on the set of #Chapter&Verse…..a film about…..yes, Harlem. 💪🏽❤️🙏🏽
