Research has shown that diabetes disproportionately high rates of diabetes are found among minority communities such as Hispanic (15.5%) and Black (17.4%) adults. Minority communities also face many barriers when it comes to getting medical care, leading to higher rates of hospitalizations and death due to diabetes.
