Two people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 13-year-old Cleveland girl who was simply sitting on the couch in her living room, Fox 8 News reports.

Cleveland Police Sgt. Sammy Morris tells Fox 8 News that Stephen Smith, 24, was arrested for felonious assault and Latosia Warren, 25, of Cleveland, was arrested for obstruction of justice.

The arrests were made as a result of an investigation by the Cleveland Police Department’s Fourth District Vice Unit. Early Tuesday morning, officers executed a county search warrant and recovered a firearm before arresting Smith and Warren, who are both currently in city jail awaiting charges.

The shooting occurred just after 6 p.m. Monday in the 11200 block of Matilda Avenue.

Morris says officers responded to the area for a report of a female shot. Once they arrived, they were informed that Brianna Hines, 13, was sitting on the couch in her living room with her back to the window when four shots were fired into the home.

Morris said Brianna suffered a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported by Cleveland EMS to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.

Brianna’s family earlier believed that she had passed away.
