CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

A Cleveland jail guard has been suspended, accused of sleeping on the job and allowing a prisoner to take off.

The guard, Constance Hefeford, was suspended 20 working days, or one month without pay.

The prisoner she let escape, Erin Eckroad who was wanted for drug charges, is still on the loose.

Eckroad walked away from a hospital while Hefeford apparently fell asleep while on guard, armed with handcuffs and a gun.

Hefeford denies falling asleep, but the hospital said she did.  The Safety Director says there is no excuse for letting this happen.

Crime Stoppers has been taking a lot of calls about Eckroad, but police still haven’t found her.
