Cleveland is constantly setting the precedent for a hustler’s ambition manifested into tangible results. Big Stove is a college student, radio personality, and Island Def Jam’s latest recruit.

apitalizing off his position as a well-known student at Kent State University, his single “School Boy Fresh” made it all possible. He has a digital distribution deal, and sat down with the Word Eye Heard to discuss future plans.

On combining radio and rapping:

I looked up some stuff on Ludacris and he started in radio and he became a rap icon. But if music comes first, I’m gonna do music and do radio on the side.

On deal with Island Def Jam:

Everybody says ‘Stove you not gone make it, you not good enough, your gimmick is wack. But whatever. I’m up here; where you at? You’re not, so…thank you.

It’s basically promoting my music exclusively for the next 3 months. He ships me out to 20 different major labels, 339 indie labels, 80 tv networks, and 239 radio stations, including Sirius. It took him 2 days, and I was on Sirius radio.

Then he just text’d me and told me a filmmaker wants to use my music in one of their movies. What?!? Are you serious?!?

On love for fellow Cleveland artists:

The one show I did do with MGK, he told me that my set was better than his. I had to fucks with MGK, because he was [from] the heart. Chip [the Ripper], Ray Cash, Bone…Avant, the list goes on. It’s a lot of stardom in Cleveland.

On future plans:

In 5 years, I see myself in New York chillin’ with Charlamagne the God and getting talked about. Also on the top of the billboard charts.
