Jimmy Kimmel might be a genius. The late night talk show host may have just discovered a market long forgotten in the music world: Kidz Bop Hip-Hop. Kimmel, with the help of West Coast legend Ice Cube, debuted a demo tape of sorts of Kidz Bop Hip-Hop last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Jimmy said having a baby daughter of his own and getting tired of “The Wheels on the Bus” was his inspiration behind this new collab.
As expected, the sketch that ensues is ridiculously funny. The faux Kidz Bop Hip-Hop CD is said to feature over 50 of the hottest “mother-huggin” covers of rap’s most explicit hit singles. The clip features appearances by Ty Dolla Sign, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky and Lil Jon. Who would have thought Sean Don’s 2015 single “IDFWU” featuring E-40 could be reworked into “I Can’t Tie My Shoe” so easily? Or that these kids could sanitize Lil Jon’s raunchy 2002 hit single “Get Low” into a medley about playing tether ball on the playground without skipping a beat?
Ice Cube, the host of the Kidz Bop Hip-Hop infomercial , finishes up his PG-rated pitch with the notion that, “you can spit the heat without hittin’ all the cusses.” Wise words, Cube.
