Mother of student: “We thought it was a hoax”
Lissette Rozenblat, whose daughter attends Stoneman Douglas High School, said her daughter texted her when the school shooting started.
“At first, we thought it was a hoax, because in today’s day and age, you just never know,” she told CNN.
Rozenblat said her daughter kept texting her throughout the shooting, begging her to call 911. Her daughter was eventually able to escape and take shelter in a nearby Walmart.
“It’s just absolutely horrifying,” she said.
Student: “Everyone just started freaking out”
A student at Stoneman Douglas High School told CNN affiliate WSVN that “everyone just started freaking out.”
“We all thought it was a fire drill because we had one previously today,” he said. “And we thought it was so no one was that nervous, but then word started going around that it was shots and not just like something else, everyone just started running towards the canal.”
