The Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland delivers high-quality education for children in Cuyahoga County, but at one center, children can take that learning to a special place outside.
Last year, CEOGC opened a certified outdoor classroom at its Louis Stokes Head Start Center. The outdoor classroom provides a space for learning through play for the students to enjoy year-round. The outdoor version of a classroom was certified by Nature Explore, a research-based initiative for children and families to develop a love for nature.
The first-of-its-kind classroom provides children with the opportunity to grow in their understanding of the environment. It also allows teachers to be creative with lesson plans giving them a way to incorporate nature into learning – something more difficult to do in a typical classroom.
CEOGC continues to plan for the future, hoping to build more outdoor classrooms at other sites.
