The Pamunkey Indians were the largest tribe within the powerful Powhatan Chiefdom.
Soon colonizers would arrive to settle in Jamestown in 1607.
As of today they’re over 200 members strong and have 1,200 acres of reservation lands established through treaties signed with the English in 1646 and 1677.
The Pamunkey Indian Reservation, which was established in 1646, happens to be the oldest Indian reservation in North America.
The Reservation is approximately 1,600 acres in size and located in King William County on the border with New Kent County, in Virginia.
