IT’S EXERCISE

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have sex than spin on a bike any day. While you may not burn as many calories as a spin class, swimming or a personal training session, 30 minutes of sex can burn up to 85 calories or more – depending on how into it you get. And if you tend to have sex for longer than 30 minutes a session, and have sex as much as five times a week, those calories can add up! If you put in work, sex may be all the exercise you need!

REDUCES STRESS

Nothing can take the stress out of grueling day like getting your back cracked…and I’m not talking about the chiropractor! Studies show that people who had intercourse regularly responded better to stressful situations than those who didn’t have sex often or who abstained.

PAIN RELIEVER

Have sore muscles from working out or a headache? Try having sex before reaching for the ibuprofen. During sex, levels of oxytocin increase five times their normal level, releasing endorphins that alleviate pain. Have cramps? Sex also prompts production of estrogen, which reduces the pain of PMS. Try it before you reach for the over-the-counter stuff – unless you have a migraine or your man is out of town. But if he’s around, ask him to help take your pain away!

BETTER SLEEP/HELPS YOU RELAX

Can’t sleep? Have sex! A good lay can serve an insomniac well. While sex can be invigorating, the same oxytocin that can reduce pain is also known to promote sleep. This shouldn’t be surprising considering most men will be fully awake before and during sex, but knocked out less than 5 minutes after climaxing. Same could be true for you. Even if sex doesn’t put you right to sleep, it can at least calm you down and relax you to prepare for a better night’s rest.

GREAT SKIN AND HAIR

No, I am not going where you think I’m going (narsty selves, lol). When climaxing, women release extra estrogen, and it makes hair shine. Also, if you get hot and heavy with your man during a regular session, the sweat produced during sex helps cleanses the pores and make your skin glow. It’s that wonderful serotonin the gives us that “after-glow” effect. Bask in it!

Having sex once or twice a week has been linked with higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A, or IgA, which can protect you from getting colds and other infections. Vitamin C is cool, but sex is even better!

Having sex and experiencing the “Big O” gives you a natural high – a state of euphoria that isn’t narcotic. Even if it only lasts a few minutes or a few seconds, that feeling is amazing and can be addictive in a GOOD way. What is there not to love about that!?

Because sex reduces stress, boosts immunity and lowers cortisol levels in the bloodstream, sex also slows down the aging process. So if you want to find the fountain of youth in a fun, passionate way, get busy with your partner at least twice a week and live longer!

We already know that sex is a great form of exercise, so it’s only natural that having sex is a great way to keep your heart healthy. For women, having more sex boosts her levels of estrogen, which protects against heart disease. If you think you’re too old to have sex and might suffer a stroke if you get too heated, think again. Studies have shown that older folks who have sex regularly can actually help to PREVENT a heart attack or a stroke, not cause one. So get your heart rate up!

BUILDS INTIMACY

Perhaps the best reason to have sex with your partner regularly is to stay connected. With the pressures of work, children and other day-to-day responsibilities that can stress you out and disconnect you from your partner, having sex is a great way to bring you back to each other and keep the intimacy going. Oxytocin is also called the “love hormone,” which helps people bond. Make time to cuddle up with each other and keep the passion in your partnership hot!
